Mrs. Linda Jean Yerkes Miller
January 18, 1952 – August 27, 2026
Linda Jean Yerkes Miller was born on January 18, 1952 to Norman and Helen Yerkes of St. Petersburg, Florida. She grew up near the beach, accompanying her parents to backyard Bible clubs with Child Evangelism Fellowship, and listening to what her parents probably considered scandalous music like The Beach Boys.
During her youth, Linda came to know and trust Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She graduated from Lakeview High School and then attended Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, Alabama where she met her future husband Glenn and participated in the chorale group, something she enjoyed all through her adulthood.
Glenn and Linda married in May of 1973 and soon after moved to Mentone, Alabama to start Ponderosa Bible Camp where they served as directors for 24 years. During the offseason of camp, Linda served the children of DeKalb County Schools through Released Time, a program that allowed school children to hear the good news of Jesus’ person and work during school hours. She also served in her church teaching children through Sunday School, Children’s Church and VBS programs.
She spent most of her time raising four children and being a home maker. She was the tradition-keeper and holiday enthusiast of the family, making all the holidays special in their own way. For her children, she attended every school and extracurricular activity. She didn’t miss anything; she was so supportive and present. She also became a substitute teacher for both DeKalb County and Fort Payne City Schools, and was everyone’s favorite sub.
Eventually she became a grandmother to 13, almost 14 grandchildren, and had she lived a bit longer would have been able to meet her very first great grandson. “Grandma” is what they call her and she did a great job spoiling them with gifts, snacks, and special outings.
Linda was so generous – a great gift giver, and an encourager – she was her family’s biggest cheerleader. She had a way with words and often sent cards to others to encourage them. She loved her family, the children of this area, her church, and her Lord. So much of her life was spent telling others the good news of who Jesus is and what he did on the cross, and she would have no greater joy than to know that if you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, today would be the day of your salvation.
