Mrs. Judith Hunnicutt Lewis

September 27, 1946 – August 21, 2023

Heaven gained a precious saint when Judy Lewis, age 76, was called to a glorious Homecoming to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Macon, GA, to Dewey and Mary Carter Hunnicutt, she was one of their five children.

Survivors include her husband Robert, whom she met in storybook fashion. Judy’s first husband died young, leaving her with a young son. One day she went to Super X Drugs in Opelika, AL, to return a toy her son had received for his birthday. Robert, working as a pharmacist there, took her return and said he needed her phone number-not because the store needed it but because he wanted it for himself. He called later, asked her to lunch and six months later they were married and remained married for 52 years.

Other survivors include:

Children: Duncan Ward “Bubba” Lewis (Karen) of Valley, AL, Mandy Lewis Cash (Kevin) of Mentone, AL, Jessica Lewis Cash (Dewayne) of Rising Fawn, GA

Grandchildren: Connor Cash, Carley Cash, Aubrey Caswell (Matt), Laney Cash, Lily Cash, Ellie Cash, & Billy Cash

Great-Grandchildren: Bronson, Aaliyah, Alora, Alec, Apollo, Azekiel, & Alaina Caswell

Siblings: Gary Hunnicutt (Liz), Dane Hunnicutt, Lynn Hunnicutt (Margie), & Beth Blankenship

Preceded in death by:

Parents: Dewey & Mary Carter Hunnicutt

Brother-in-law: Donnie Blankenship

Pallbearers: Jeffery Hunnicutt, Jeff Hunnicutt, Greg Hunnicutt, Derek Blankenship, Kevin Cash, & Dewayne Cash

Judy began her schooling at Bruce Elementary in Macon and then attended middle and high school in Opelika, AL, graduating with honors in 1965 with an active high school career in the Beta, Latin, and Home Economics Clubs as well as serving on the Opelika High School yearbook staff. Judy became a Christian at age 9 and was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church (PCA), Fort Payne, from 1987 until her passing. She served God and her church as treasurer of Women in the Church and as a coordinator of meals for families in need.

Judy’s family recalls that her favorite pastime was taking care of everyone else. Her generous, loving spirit was marked by watching her grandkids play sports and participate in extracurricular activities and playing board games and coloring with them. She loved calling on birthdays to sing Happy Birthday, singing Christmas carols, playing Rook, and especially being together with her siblings at Thanksgiving. An outgoing woman, Judy had many friends who loved hearing her joyful laughter and giggles, receiving gratefulness for acts of kindness, and being blessed by her keen listening skills, smiling face, and encouraging words. Her devoted care to husband Robert during an extended illness demonstrated exemplary love. Judy possessed the gift of making others feel valued and worthwhile, children and adults alike. A faithful prayer life testified of her love for her Lord, family, and friends. Her sweet spirit and beautiful, positive outlook on life continued throughout her illness with her desire to honor God in and through the challenges.

The family is accepting flowers or donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc., 7460 Warren Parkway, Suite 150, Frisco, TX 75034 or (nationalbreastcancer.org)
