Marvice "Smitty" Smith

February 21, 1931 – January 31, 2024

Marvice “Smitty” Smith, age 92 of Fort Payne, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Born in Oxford, Florida, she graduated from Wildwood High School and the University of Florida School of Practical Nursing. She then married the love of her life and moved to Fort Payne.

Smitty started her nursing career at DeKalb General Hospital, and went on to work many years for Drs. William Noble, G.I. Weatherly, George Weatherly, Daniel Mince, and Frine Roca. Smitty never forgot any of her patients, and loved each and every one.

She was preceded in death by:

Husband: Raymond O. Smith

Parents: John Calvin and Annie Rayborn

Brothers: James Monroe Rayborn and Ferman Calvin Rayborn

Sister: Margaret Eloise Howell

Her lifelong best friend: Kathleen “Kat” Hill

She is survived by:

Son: John (Brenda)

Grandsons: Tyler (Sabrina) and Kyle (Britt)

The apples of her eye, Great-Granddaughters: Ada and Audrey Kate

Nieces: Betty Ashley, Alicia McWhorter, and Michelle Rayborn

Nephew: Ralph Raborn

Great-Nieces: Tara Chambers, Jennifer Adair, and Heather Box
