Mr. Mark Gregory Hobbs

September 26, 1959 – September 11, 2021

Retired police detective sergeant Mark Gregory Hobbs, 61, walked into the presence of his Lord and Savior on September 11, 2021 and reunited with loved ones who preceded him in death. These include his father, Herbert Hobbs; his brother, Larry Clinton Hobbs; his grand-nephew, Forrest Daniel Meeks Jr. and many other cherished loved ones and friends.

Mark was a devoted Christian who taught college-age students, conducted a prison ministry and was an elder at Asbury Methodist. Mark was a member of Wylam Baptist, Meadowbrook Baptist and Asbury Methodist. Mark loved football, was an avid Alabama fan, played at Ensley High and Troy University. He also coached youth football at Adamsville, Crestwood and Oak Mountain.

He graduated from Ensley High School, attended the University of Alabama, Troy University and graduated from the University of Alabama Birmingham with a degree in Criminal Justice. He was a police officer at UAB and Hoover Police Department. He wrote a book, Bold Lions, about his experiences in law enforcement.

Mark was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by the love of his life, Ginger Hobbs; his mother, Doris Hobbs; his sister, Beverly Meeks (Dan); his stepdaughter, Ashley Evans (John); stepson, Adam Tuxbury (Heather); his grandchildren, Emma, Faith, and Abigail; his nephews and niece, Forrest (Jamie), Josh (Sandi), Tanner (Mary Beth), Jesse Hobbs, Elizabeth Whatley (Nathan) and many other extended family members.

Pallbearers: Dan Meeks, Forrest Meeks, Josh Meeks, Tanner Meeks, Adam Tuxbury, & John Evans.
