Ms. Kathleen Ellen Sayre

June 11, 1954 – May 14, 2025

Kathleen Ellen (Kathy) Sayre, dearly love by many, passed away peacefully, May 14, in Fort Payne, AL, at the age of 70. Kathy was born June 11, 1954, in Monmouth, N.J. to Ellen and Gordon Sayre. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, brother Gordon and sister-in-law Kathy. She is survived by her sister, Margaret, NY, nieces Michele Sayre, San Antonio, TX, and Amy Sayre Buchanan, and husband Bryant Buchanan of Valley Head, AL, and nephew Peter Sayre of San Antonio, TX.

Kathy was also proudly the Great-Aunt Kathy to Bridget Potts (Thomas) and Elizabeth Potts, Hinesville, GA, Emily, Nathaniel, Nigell, Emmalee, and Mason. She loved them so very much and was always telling everyone she loved about them.

Kathy was proud of her father’s lengthy military service and the fact that she had lived in Barat Morrocco Africa as a very young child. In the San Antonio area, Kathy attended school in the Judson School District and remained an avid fan of her Judson Rockets through her lifetime.

Her adult life saw Kathy as a member of the American Red Cross as a volunteer and as an employee, working at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, Fort Huachuca, AZ, and Fort Sill, OK. She was also stationed on assignment on Marine Base Camp Hansen on the island of Okinawa, Japan. She also did work representing veterans with illness/injuries incurred while serving in the U.S. military in the Gulf War. Another aspect of this multi-talented woman was her work at six newspapers throughout her years of employment.

She was a huge fan of country music and loved listening and dancing to live music.

She touched so many lives throughout her lifetime. This wonderfully remarkable woman will be greatly missed.

Kathy was a blessing to know. Although I saw her in person twice, we would keep in touch via messenger. Always upbeat, happy and ready to talk about movies, music and her family. She will always be missed.

I am so very sad at the news of Kathy's death. She and I worked together for the American Red Cross at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where she was loved and respected by many, as well as assisting our military and their families. I am sure she was welcomed with open arms on her arrival in heaven. May she rest in peace.

I connected with Kathy from a Judson Alumni group. She was always so upbeat and sweet. When I lost my daughter, she checked on me often. She would send me little things to make me smile. She was also a wonderful supporter of my business. I will miss her very much.

Dear Kathy- Rest in peace my friend! My deepest condolences to the Family. We meet at the Fort Sill Red Cross and became friends and co-Workers. I remember your love for the cats and how you loved the Marines above the rest of the military branches! You touched many lives and that is your legacy!

Kathy is dearly missed. Since she has passed I still find myself picking up the phone to call and tell her something exciting or funny, sometimes even bad news about one of our classmates from Judson. We would have marathon phone calls anywhere from 30 min calls to once a 7 hours call during. We loved one another very much. I will take her secrets to my grave just like I told her I would. Kathy, you can rest in peace now. No more pain and sleepless nights.

So many wonderful memories were made working & socializing at the ARC in OK with Kathy. She had a giving heart, great sense of humor, and a loyalty to the Marines! Prayers to the family.
