Mr. John Paul Smith Jr.

April 23, 1931 – September 17, 2020

Mr. John Paul Smith Jr., age 89, of Mentone, AL passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020.

John enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 22 and served his country during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955. John married Bobbie Sue Bain in 1952 and they settled in Summerville, Georgia. They raised three daughters and one son. John worked at Riegel Textile Mill for 45 years. After his retirement in 1993, he and Bobbie moved back to Mentone, Alabama where they were raised.

John had a special place in his heart for all children. You could often see children running to sit with him during church. He was a faithful servant to his God, his family, and his church.

He is survived by:

Daughters: Sandra Sanders, Susan Spurling (Jeff), & Sheila Smith (Bayne Dobbins)

Son: Stanley Smith (Dana)

Grandchildren: Clay Sanders (Tonya), Gavin Smith (Lauren), Josh Smith, Ranzy Smith, Ansley Smith, Hillary Hall, & Jordan Spurling (Sarah)

Great-Grandchildren: Maddox Sanders, Brantley Smith, & Bennett Spurling

Sister-in-law: Judy Smith

Preceded in death by:

Wife: Bobbie Smith

Parents: Paul & Nettie Smith

Son-in-law: Charles Sanders

Brothers: Ernest Smith & William Guy “Squeak” Smith

Sisters: Lavonna Cooper, Dorothy Gray, Catherine Henley, & Geraldine Ellis
