Mrs. Joy Elizabeth Brittain McKaig

July 27, 1965 – October 15, 2019

Joy Elizabeth Brittain McKaig, age 54, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. She was born on July 27, 1965. She was a 1983 graduate of Fort Payne High School and attended Northeast Community College and Jacksonville State University. Anyone who knew Joy knew of her deep and passionate love for horses, music and her son Alex. Joy attended New Oregon United Methodist Church and had many long time friends. Joy truly loved life. Diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis and losing her right leg to an infection at such a young age, she always kept a positive outlook and found a way to laugh in the midst of her circumstances.

Hi Joy, I was going through some old mail and found a letter from you dated 1989. Can you believe that!?!? My son, Karl, was almost 3. And you were talking about your Meema, being sick in Fort Payne. I’ve thought of you so very often over the years. And I’m so so SOOO SORRY that I didn’t stay in better touch over these many years. And my heart is shattered that you’re gone. My mama passed on last year (April 29). I have always cared and loved you like a sister, and losing touch with you will be one of the biggest regrets of my life. Love You, Ms Christina Hope (Clark) Clark is my adopted maiden name, that’s the name you’d remember me by - I was your grandmothers neighbor until I bolted for the West coast - and then a few years later - I went back to Alabama and stayed with your grandmother for awhile. She was the most kind. Her heart so big. She loved her son like no Mother I've ever known. And, her son, Alex loved her more than I've known a child to love his mom. I will miss you Joy, I will, for as long as I'm living, take care of our boy! 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛

We were neighbors for thirty some years.
I worked with Joy for a while. She was such a wonderful person and so kind.
My deepest sympathies to her family. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
