Mrs. Gloria Moses Lawing
July 6, 1927 – January 10, 2018
Mrs. Gloria Moses Lawing, age 90, passed away at her daughter’s residence in Hixson, TN on January 10, 2018 after a long battle with illness. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Shelvia W. Lawing; a son, Jerry D. Lawing; parents, Ollie and Ora Moses; sister, Delores Goggans and bother Eldon Moses. Left here to cherish her memory are her sister Joyce Russell, daughter Suzanne M. Dobbs, grandsons Joshua K. Dobbs, Jeremy Lawing and Jason Millican, great-grandchildren Trace Lawing and Annalise Lawing; brother-in-law JT Goggans, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lawing was born July 6, 1927 and raised in Fort Payne, AL. Nursing was in her blood from a very early age and she always loved taking care of people. She graduated from Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing in 1948 and began her career at Erlanger Hospital then continued with positions at the Hamilton County Health Department, the Marion County Health Department and the DeKalb County Alabama Health Department before retiring to care for her ailing mother and husband.
During her nursing years, ‘Ms. Gloria’ was loved and remembered by patients, parents, and co-workers for the excellent care she provided to all ‘her’ babies at well baby clinics. She was awarded the Hazel H. Fowler Award in 1986 for outstanding contributions to Public Health Nursing.
Mrs. Lawing was a member at Calvary Baptist Church in Red Bank at her death. Even though she was not able to attend services the last few years, she remained an active, working member of her church, providing Bible School goodies and crafts for the Mission Fair there.
The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone who had part in Mrs. Lawing’s care, the fellow church members who called and visited her during her illness and the Hospice groups that helped make her final years comfortable. Special thanks to Connie Temples her best friend for her faithfulness as well as to Susan Scott, Melinda Ingle and Lynette Laher for loving and caring for Mrs. Lawing during her illness.
