Mrs. Barbara Dunn Purdy

February 7, 1941 – May 11, 2020

Mrs. Barbara Dunn Purdy, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 11, 2020. She was at home surrounded by her children, close friends and her beloved animals. Barbara was born in Sylacauga, AL on February 7, 1941 to Claude & Trudy Allen Dunn and move to Fort Payne, AL in the late 1950’s.

Barbara was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She started the “Happy Hands” sewing group making clothes to be sent to the missionaries who worked with children. She also led the group in making hats for cancer patients. They were always designed to be fun and colorful. (another one of her endearing trademarks.) She was also a member of the church Bible study with Dr. Mark Lacey.

She was also very active in the local ASPCA. All of her animals were rescues and she often said the reason she had so many precious dogs was that every time she worked at the shelter there was always a dog she just “couldn’t leave behind’.

Barbara was a loving and supportive wife, Mother and loyal friend to many. She never met a stranger and was always willing and ready to help anyone in need. Her personality, smile and always positive attitude could light up a room and spread joy to everyone around her. She and her husband Fred enjoyed many years of travel, social events and celebrating life with friends and family. Anyone who knew her is left with a smile in their heart and a story to tell of the fun times they spent with Barbara Purdy. She will be missed for many years to come and has left a void in the hearts of her family and friends.

To quote Barbara Purdy, “Honey, don’t worry about me. I am just transferring from one place to another.” An example of her faith and Christian belief.

I have met Fred and Barbara back in the early 80s when I migrated to Fort Payne from the Philippines and my wife Sing met her when she finally came here and got her haircuts from her. We got real close thru the years and she and Fred has been real good in supporting me with my music and when I had Archie's. We would really miss her...Sending our condolences and prayers to the family ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Barbara was one of the 1st people I got to know when I moved to Fort Payne 25 years ago. She was the only salon that would cut and color my hair the way I liked it. Which then was a bit weird to some of the people that lived here. I loved when I walked in, she told me I was in the right place the BAA BAA Shop!!!! She will be so missed. Fly high Barbara

Barbara was definitely one of a kind. I really got to know her when I was her nurse at the cancer center for several years and never one time did I see her not smiling or feeling down and I am sure there were some days when she would have rather just stayed home but she would be there and always dressed like she was really going somewhere special but she always said it made her feel better to have her heels on, lol !! I will never forget the talks we had and life lessons she taught me !! Love you Barbara โค๏ธ Prayers for peace and comfort to her family โค๏ธ
