Mr. Wesley Earle Drennen

December 2, 1947 – December 28, 2023

Mr. Wesley Earle Drennen, age 76, of Cloudland, Georgia peacefully passed away at his residence on December 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Earle was born in Mountain Brook, Alabama on December 2, 1947 to Virginia Neal Drennen and Jesse Lafayette Drennen, Jr. He graduated from Shades Crest High School before attending the University of Montevallo and then graduating from the University of Alabama in 1974.

He co-founded Harmony Foods in 1972 with his first wife, Frances Self Drennen. They opened Manna Grocery and Deli together in 1980. He worked as the co-owner at Manna for 40 years, sharing his knowledge of natural foods and medicines with customers in the store and on radio appearances.

Later in life he returned to playing golf, an early passion of his. He took part in many golf tournaments across the Southeast and loved being on the golf course with friends.

Earle married Adelaide Wood in 2011. They lived in Tuscaloosa until Earle retired from Manna Grocery in 2020, and he and Adelaide then moved to Cloudland, Georgia. They loved hosting family and friends at their home on Lookout Mountain. They developed a large group of friends and a lively social life, and Earle continued golfing at many courses in the area and as a member of Terrapin Hills Country Club.

Earle and Adelaide loved to travel and took many trips to visit their children and grandchildren across the country. They also visited National Parks and traveled abroad.

He had a love for film and nature, spending lots of time with Adelaide and family on hikes that often ended with a dip in a swimming hole, or watching movies at home and in theaters. He practiced meditation every day and took great care of his health through diet, yoga, and exercise. He loved following the PGA Tour and college football, especially the Crimson Tide.

Earle is survived by his wife Adelaide Drennen; children Natalie Nisa Jones (Jeremy), Anna Grace Drennen, (Baker Lawley) Daniel Valiyat Drennen (Jacquelyn), and Ilona Kathleen Drennen; step-children Victor Wood and Josephine Wood Agrawal (Saahil); and grandchildren Tristen, Phoebe, Chandler, Ford, Cleo, Finn, DeWitt, and Neera.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Tee of Birmingham or Cloudland Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 277, Menlo, GA 30731.

Earl’s energy was at a calmer frequency than most people’s. His meditation practice and lifestyle choices are inspirational. He shared with me and my husband, Terry, his kindness, curious nature and sense of humor. We send Adelaide and his family our heartfelt condolences. We will remember Earl fondly.
